Vinay Jalla is a novelist, short-story writer, former BBC journalist and artist whose stories explore the richness, absurdities and darker mysteries of human life.
With more than 30 years of experience spanning journalism, media, technology and the creative arts, Vinay has always been fascinated by the power of storytelling. His writing draws on childhood memories, family anecdotes, human behaviour and the worlds that exist between the familiar and the unexpected.
His debut novel, Warp and Weft, grew out of stories shared by his grandmother about village life in Dharmavaram, India. Inspired by the fictional landscapes of R. K. Narayan and the sweeping storytelling of Vikram Seth, Vinay created an imagined world shaped by family memories, traditions and the enduring influence of oral storytelling. His published work also includes Age, Sex, Location, Cricket Bat and My Mother and Other Stories.
Through Jalla Publishing House, Vinay continues to explore the possibilities of fiction and independent publishing.
His latest release, Mango Bite, takes a darker turn. Blending childhood fears, unsettling encounters and supernatural horror, the story follows eleven-year-old Balu into the remote town of Bhoothalli, where a strange fruit vendor, a mysterious old man and a disturbing discovery inside a mango lead him towards a chilling truth.
A former BBC journalist and experienced content creator, Vinay brings a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of narrative and an understanding of how stories connect with audiences. Alongside his writing, he is a Manchester-based artist and cartoonist whose work uses humour, irony and everyday observation to explore human behaviour and contemporary life.
Whether writing novels, short stories, children's adventures or horror, Vinay is drawn to stories that surprise, unsettle, entertain and stay with readers long after the final page.
