Some moments in an artist’s journey rise beautifully, a bit like well-proved dough. This is one of them.
Two of my original watercolour and pencil artworks are now on display at GAIL’s Bakery, Didsbury, one of Manchester’s most loved and luxurious bakeries. As a Manchester-based artist and cartoonist, seeing my work hanging in a space where people gather, chat, and enjoy food together feels incredibly meaningful.
Every Slice Matters
This artwork shows a man carefully slicing bread - a quiet, everyday moment with a bigger message. The piece explores sustainability, food waste, and mindful living, reminding us that small choices add up. Whether it’s bread, creativity, or community, wasting less and valuing more matters.
GAIL’s Solar System
The second piece takes a more playful orbit. GAIL’s Solar System reimagines cinnamon buns and bakery favourites as planets, spinning joyfully in their own sugary universe. It’s a celebration of food, humour, and storytelling - three things that sit at the heart of my work as a cartoonist and illustrator.
Art feedback and fresh buns
What makes this exhibition special is its setting. This isn’t a gallery, it’s a bakery. Families, locals, and regulars encounter the artwork naturally, often while enjoying coffee and pastries. Hearing real, unfiltered reactions from the community is something every artist values deeply.
A huge thank you
A heartfelt thank you to Dani, the manager at GAIL’s Didsbury, whose support and care made this installation possible. Championing local Manchester artists helps creativity thrive where it belongs - in the heart of the community.
As a Manchester artist, moments like this reaffirm why I create. Art doesn’t need to whisper from white walls. Sometimes, it’s best served warm (with a cinnamon bun, of course).
